What does MSc in AI at KFUPM provide
What does MSc in AI at KFUPM provide
The MSc in Artificial Intelligence at KFUPM is a 2-year in-person program built around four semesters. Here's how the courses are structured.
Semester 1: AI & Machine Learning Foundations
Students begin with the core foundations of artificial intelligence and machine learning. This semester introduces intelligent systems, search methods, knowledge representation, problem solving, uncertainty, and basic machine learning concepts.
Courses:
• ICS 501: Foundations of Artificial Intelligence
• ICS 502: Machine Learning
Semester 2: Deep Learning & Data Science Mathematics
The second semester focuses on advanced AI models and the mathematical tools needed for data science. Students study deep learning networks, training methods, optimization, and mathematical foundations such as linear algebra, calculus, and numerical tools.
Courses:
• ICS 504: Deep Learning
• MATH 503: Mathematics for Data Science
Semester 3: Data Science, Computer Vision & Project Work
In the third semester, students move into applied AI areas. They study the full data science pipeline, including data cleaning, exploration, visualization, modeling, and evaluation. They also learn computer vision topics such as image processing, object detection, motion tracking, and deep learning for vision.
Courses:
• MATH 506: Fundamentals of Data Science
• ICS 505: Computer Vision
• ICS 619: Project
Semester 4: Optimization, NLP & Final Project
The final semester develops advanced AI application skills. Students study evolutionary computation and global optimization, along with natural language processing topics such as language modeling, embeddings, machine translation, question answering, chatbots, and summarization. The project continues with an industry-based AI/ML research project, technical report, and presentation.
Courses:
• ICS 503: Evolutionary Computation and Global Optimization
• ICS 506: Natural Language Processing
• ICS 619: Project
I'm currently enrolled starting August 2025. I'll be documenting what the coursework looks like in practice as I go through it.
